Ergonomics and contemporary Norwegian design

Norwegian chairs that grow with the child and chairs for sitting in balance, and a new generation of designers and architects.

Peter Opsvik designed the Tripp Trapp children's chair for Stokke in 1972; it can be adjusted so that it grows with the child. Around 1980 he and other Norwegian designers developed balans chairs, on which one kneels and keeps the back straight. Ekornes's Stressless armchair of 1971 became an export success.

The architecture practice Snøhetta, known for the Oslo Opera House of 2008, has also designed objects, graphics and the reverse sides of Norway's banknotes. Norwegian design has won its own place at the international fairs.
