Lanvin’s black sphere with the image of Jeanne Lanvin and her daughter in gold.

Jeanne Lanvin had the perfumer André Fraysse create the scent, named after a chord played note by note, for her daughter Marguerite. The bottle, the black sphere, was designed by Lanvin’s interior designer Armand-Albert Rateau.

The image of mother and daughter had been drawn by Paul Iribe and became the house’s logo. The sphere shows Art Deco’s love of simple geometric forms and the contrast between black and gold.

Materials: Black glass or porcelain, gold

Manufacture: Made for Lanvin from 1927, first in black Sèvres porcelain and later in black glass.

The black, round sphere.

The gold image of a mother and daughter holding hands.

The round stopper.
