Bilston enamel scent bottle

Bilston enamel scent bottle, English enamellers
Staffordshire Factory, CC0

The small enamelled bottle in the shape of a fruit, an animal or a flower.

In Bilston and Birmingham, small objects of enamel on copper were made in the 18th century, such as snuff boxes, needle cases and scent bottles. They were cheaper than gold and porcelain but just as colourful.

The scent bottles were made in many shapes and carried by ladies as ornaments. They belong to English small-scale art of the Georgian period.
