BMW M1
BMW's only mid-engined car, designed by Giugiaro and built for racing.
The M1 was to have been built by Lamborghini, but the partnership broke down. BMW started its own race series, Procar, in which Formula One drivers raced M1s before the grands prix.
Materials: Tubular frame, glass-fibre body; six-cylinder engine
Manufacture: The frame was made in Italy and the car assembled by Baur in Stuttgart.
