Bohemian engraved goblet

Hard, clear potash glass in which the engraver cut hunting scenes and arms with copper wheels.
Around 1700 Bohemian glass overtook the Venetian thanks to its hard potash glass, which could take deep engraving. Goblets were gifts at court and in burgher homes. Examples are in the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Materials: Potash crystal
Manufacture: Thick potash glass was blown and engraved with small copper wheels and abrasive, matt and polished.
The matt engraving against bright glass, with polished areas that sparkle.
