Carlton
The room divider that looks like a figure – and provoked the whole design world.
Ettore Sottsass designed Carlton for the first Memphis exhibition in Milan in 1981. The bookcase is more a figure with arms than storage.
Memphis broke with modernism's demands for function and good taste. The group lasted only a few years but changed the view of what design may be.
