Casio G-Shock DW-5000C

The first G-Shock, a digital watch that survives being dropped from ten metres.
The engineer Kikuo Ibe dropped his watch and wanted to make one that would not break. He tried hundreds of designs before letting the movement float in the case. The G-Shock became popular with skateboarders and has sold more than a hundred million.
Materials: Plastic, steel; digital quartz movement
Manufacture: Made in Japan; the movement is suspended in rubber inside the case.

The words Shock Resist on the dial.
The design was known as triple 10: the watch had to survive a fall from ten metres, be waterproof to ten bar and have a battery that lasted ten years. The movement hangs in dampers inside a resin case.
