Domino paper
Small printed and hand-coloured sheets with a repeat pattern, for lining boxes, books and walls.
Dominotiers were a guild of paper painters in France and forerunners of the wallpaper factories. The sheets were used as endpapers and linings. Examples are in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and Cooper Hewitt.
Materials: Handmade paper, ink, watercolour
Manufacture: A woodblock was printed in black and colours were added by hand with stencils.
The small format – sheets were joined into larger surfaces.
