Doves Type

A clear roman after Jenson’s 15th-century type, used only by the Doves Press – and sunk in the Thames.
Cobden-Sanderson sank the type in the Thames in 1916–1917 to keep it from his partner. In 2015 some was recovered and the type has been digitised. The Doves Bible is in the British Library.
Materials: Lead-alloy types; handmade paper
Manufacture: Drawn from enlargements of Jenson’s printing and cut by Edward Prince; it existed in only one size.
The plain, light pages without decoration, with large red or blue initials.
