An 18th-century theatre with original scenery and stage machinery that still works.

The theatre was built for Queen Lovisa Ulrika and used intensively by Gustav III. After his death it was forgotten and rediscovered in 1921. It is part of the Drottningholm World Heritage site.

Materials: Wood, papier-mâché, painted canvas, ropes

Manufacture: The auditorium is built of wood painted to look like marble and stucco; the machinery is worked by hand.

The painted marble – cheap wood pretending to be costly.

The flats in rows slid in from the sides by hand.
