Les Monuments de Paris
Dufour’s panoramic wallpaper with the sights of Paris along the Seine.
Joseph Dufour made panoramic wallpapers with scenery that stretched across the whole wall. Les Monuments de Paris shows the city’s buildings round the Seine in a landscape of the 1810s.
The wallpaper gave the viewer a picture of the city, rather like a panorama painting. It was sold to French and foreign customers.
Materials: Distemper on paper, printed with woodblocks
Manufacture: Printed by hand by Joseph Dufour & Cie in Paris in 1814.
