Encre L. Marquet

Encre L. Marquet
Eugène Grasset, Public domain

Grasset’s poster for an ink: a woman writing, with clear outlines like a leaded glass window.

Grasset brought medieval illumination and stained glass into advertising. His style was an important model for Mucha. Copies are in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Materials: Colour lithograph on paper

Manufacture: Drawn with heavy outlines and filled with flat colours, in the manner of leaded glass.

The black outlines round every area, like the lead in a church window.

The woman’s long hair and the folds of her dress forming patterns.
