Etruscan Dressing Room, Osterley Park

A dressing room painted in black and terracotta after ancient vase painting.
Adam made several Etruscan rooms, but Osterley is the best preserved. The room shows Neoclassicism’s interest in the domestic world of antiquity. The house is run by the National Trust in west London.
Materials: Painted paper and plaster, wood
Manufacture: The motifs were painted on paper in the studio and then pasted onto the walls.
The colours black and terracotta, taken from Greek vases then believed to be Etruscan.
The thin frames and medallions dividing the wall into panels.
