A wallpaper with a velvety pattern of wool fibres, a cheaper substitute for woven silk damask.

English flock wallpaper was an export success in the 18th century and was used in the state rooms of Hampton Court and Kensington Palace. Examples are in the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Whitworth in Manchester.

Materials: Paper, glue, wool flock, paint

Manufacture: The pattern was printed in glue and sprinkled with finely chopped wool, which stuck and gave a raised, soft surface.

The raised velvety pattern against the smooth ground.

The large damask pattern of symmetrical flowers and leaves.
