Fruit (Pomegranate)

Morris’s wallpaper with pomegranates, lemons and peaches on branches dividing the surface into diagonal fields.
Fruit is one of Morris’s best-known patterns and is still printed. It shows his ability to make a pattern look natural despite strict repetition. Examples are in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Materials: Paper, distemper
Manufacture: Hand-printed from woodblocks; the branches form a diagonal grid that hides the repeat.
Four kinds of fruit on crossing branches.
How the pattern repeats without the joins showing.
