The Gallery of Francis I

The Renaissance gallery at Fontainebleau with stucco and frescoes by Rosso Fiorentino.
Francis I had Italian artists decorate the gallery at Fontainebleau. Rosso Fiorentino and Primaticcio combined frescoes with stucco figures that frame them, a technique that became a model for the School of Fontainebleau.
The gallery brought Italian Renaissance decoration into France. It is one of the earliest examples of the interplay between painting and stucco in a room.
