Hezilo chandelier

A huge wheel chandelier in Hildesheim Cathedral, an image of the heavenly Jerusalem.
The wheel chandelier is six metres across and was given by Bishop Hezilo around 1061. It hangs in Hildesheim Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is one of four surviving Romanesque wheel chandeliers.
Materials: Gilded copper and iron
Manufacture: A ring-shaped band of repoussé gilded copper with towers and gates, hung on chains.
The round crown with twelve towers and twelve gates like the city wall of Revelation.
The candles stood close along the ring, so the whole circle shone.
