Kantarelli

Tapio Wirkkala’s vase like a chanterelle mushroom, with fine engraved lines like the mushroom’s gills.

Tapio Wirkkala won Iittala’s competition in 1946 with Kantarelli and made a great impression at the Milan Triennale of 1951. The vase made Finnish glass world-famous.

The form was taken from nature, but the lines are strict and modern. The vase is protected by copyright, so only a drawing is shown.

Materials: Clear glass, line-engraved

Manufacture: Blown and engraved at Iittala in Finland.

The mushroom-like form widening upwards.

Hundreds of fine engraved lines running lengthwise.

The signature TAPIO WIRKKALA and Iittala under the foot.
