Lindberg Air Titanium
The Danish rimless glasses of titanium wire – without screws, rivets or soldering.
The optician Poul-Jørn Lindberg and the architect Hans Dissing wanted to make glasses so light that you forgot you were wearing them. They used titanium wire, which is light, strong and hypoallergenic, and bent it instead of soldering it.
Air Titanium weighed only a few grams and won many design awards. Its form expresses the Danish design tradition: take away everything that is not needed.
Materials: Titanium wire, glass or plastic lenses
Manufacture: Made by Lindberg in Åbyhøj near Aarhus from 1985.
The lenses without a rim, held only at the bridge and temples.
The thin titanium wire, bent rather than soldered.
No screws – the parts hook into each other.
