Carpet bag
The soft travelling bag of carpet weave, for the traveller of the railway age.
When the railway made travel possible for many, a light bag was needed. The carpet bag was made from offcuts of carpet and kept its shape with a metal frame.
In the United States, Northerners who went south after the Civil War were called carpetbaggers after the bag. The carpet bag became a sign of the traveller and lives on in stories and films.
Materials: Carpet weave, leather, metal frame
