A clock for Junghans in which only the essential remains.

Max Bill, who had studied at the Bauhaus and founded the design school in Ulm, began designing for Junghans in the 1950s. The kitchen clock came around 1957.

Later he designed wristwatches for the same factory. The clocks are based on the same idea as his art: clear proportions and nothing superfluous.

Materials: Ceramic or metal, glass

Manufacture: Factory-made by Junghans in Schramberg.

Thin batons and slender hands.

The large, calm dial.

No ornament – the proportions are the form.

Thin lines instead of numerals, or only a few numerals in a plain sans serif, slim hands and a pale dial. The wristwatches have a domed plastic crystal.

Junghans still makes wristwatches and kitchen clocks to Max Bill’s designs.
