The soft shoe of deerskin, sewn by hand and worn by Native peoples of North America.

The moccasin is a shoe of soft hide shaped round the foot and sewn together with sinew or thread. Different peoples have different patterns and seams, and one can often see which people a shoe comes from.

The word comes from Algonquian languages. The shoe has become a model for modern loafers and moccasins.

Materials: Deer or elk hide, sinew, beads and porcupine quills

Manufacture: Sewn by hand from one or several pieces of hide, decorated with beads or quills.
