Furnishing fabric by Koloman Moser

Vienna Secession fabric: stylised birds and leaves turned into geometric patterns.
Backhausen made fabrics for the Wiener Werkstätte and the architects of the Secession, and the firm still exists. Moser’s patterns are in its archive of thousands of designs. Examples are in the MAK in Vienna and the Backhausen archive.
Materials: Wool or silk
Manufacture: Woven or printed by Johann Backhausen & Söhne in Vienna after Moser’s designs.
The motifs repeated so densely that they become almost abstract.
Few colours in strong contrasts, often black, white and one clear colour.
