Air Jordan 1

Air Jordan 1, Peter Moore
Smithsonian Institute, CC0

The basketball shoe that carried Michael Jordan’s name and made sneakers a collector’s item.

Peter Moore designed the shoe for Nike after Michael Jordan signed a contract. The red-and-black version drew attention because the league considered the colours to break its rules.

The Air Jordan became the start of a brand line of its own, Jordan Brand, and the shoe is collected by many today.

Materials: Leather, rubber sole with air cushion

Manufacture: Launched by Nike in the USA in 1985.
