Persol 714

The folding sunglasses associated with Steve McQueen.

The Persol 714 has a hinge in the bridge so that the glasses can be folded and put in a pocket. The model is associated with the actor Steve McQueen, who wore folding Persol in The Thomas Crown Affair in 1968.

Persol, founded in Turin in 1917, has made sunglasses for generations. The 714 is one of the brand’s best-known models and is still made.

Materials: Acetate, metal hinge, crystal lenses

Manufacture: Made by Persol in Italy.

The hinge in the middle of the bridge that lets the glasses fold.

The arrow-shaped metal detail on the temple.

The thick acetate frames.

The glasses fold at both the nose bridge and the hinges, becoming small enough to fit in a compact case.
