PH 5

The pendant lamp with layered shades, so that you never see the bulb.

Poul Henningsen devoted his life to making light comfortable. From the mid-1920s he built lamps with several shades for Louis Poulsen, whose curves were calculated so that the light is reflected before it reaches the eye.

The PH 5 came in 1958, when light bulbs had become stronger. It hangs over dining tables throughout the Nordic countries and is still in production.

Materials: Lacquered aluminium

Manufacture: The shades are spun or pressed in aluminium and mounted in layers.

Three shades of different sizes overlapping one another.

The light source cannot be seen from any angle; the light bounces off the shades.

The top shade is 50 centimetres in diameter, hence the name.
