Teapot by Paul Revere

Paul Revere, CC0

An American Neoclassical teapot in oval fluted silver, by the silversmith who rode to Lexington.

Paul Revere (1734–1818) is best known for his ride of 1775, but he was above all a silversmith. After the Revolution he used a rolling mill and made silver from sheet. His silver is in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Materials: Silver, wooden handle

Manufacture: Made of rolled sheet silver bent and soldered – a new, cheaper technique – with engraved swags.

The oval fluted body and the straight spout.

The engraved ribbons and swags, and REVERE stamped.
