Absinthe Robette

Absinthe Robette
Henri Privat-Livemont, Public domain

A woman in sheer drapery raises a glass of green absinthe, framed by a light outline.

The poster is one of the best-known examples of Belgian Art Nouveau. Absinthe was banned in Belgium in 1905, and the poster became a memento of an era. Copies are in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the Royal Museums of Fine Arts in Brussels.

Materials: Colour lithograph on paper

Manufacture: Printed in several colours; the figure surrounded by a white contour that lifts it from the ground.

The white outline separating the figure from the patterned background.

The green drink echoed in the colours of the image.
