The bicycle with two equal wheels and a chain to the rear wheel that became the model for almost every later bicycle.

The penny-farthing was fast but dangerous, and the Rover was called a safety bicycle because the rider sat low between the wheels. The design was so successful that the word rower means bicycle in Polish.

Materials: Steel tubes, rubber tyres; chain drive

Manufacture: Made by Starley & Sutton in Coventry.

The two almost equal wheels.

The chain from the pedals to the rear wheel.
