Rumford range

A masonry range with built-in closed boiling holes that saved fuel – the beginning of the modern stove.
Rumford studied heat scientifically and built his ranges for soup kitchens in Munich and London. The idea led to the iron stove of the 19th century. Drawings are in the Deutsches Museum in Munich.
Materials: Brick, iron, copper
Manufacture: Each pot sat in its own hole with its own small fire, instead of hanging over an open hearth.
The pots sunk into the range instead of hanging over the fire.
