1970s wallpaper

Large round flowers in orange, brown and green – the pattern that filled the kitchens and bedrooms of Sweden’s Million Programme.

In the 1960s and 70s more than a million new homes were built in Sweden, and wallpapers became bolder. Inspiration came from Marimekko, Pop Art and Verner Panton’s interiors.

Vinyl wallpaper made walls washable. Typical colours were orange, brown, mustard and olive green. The pattern is shown here as a drawing, since its designers may still be protected.
