Stourhead

An English landscape garden around a lake with temples and a Palladian bridge.
Henry Hoare II, son of the banker, had a lake dammed in the valley and planted trees and temples around it. The circuit is conceived as a story from Virgil’s Aeneid, with temples and the grotto as stations.
Stourhead is one of the best-known examples of the English landscape garden, which replaced the symmetry of the Baroque with a landscape that looks natural.
