Sussex chair

Morris & Co.’s simple country chair with a rush seat, cheap and ebonised.
William Morris’s firm adopted a chair made in Sussex and sold it in several versions for more than fifty years. It was one of the few products of the firm that ordinary people could afford. Examples are in the Victoria and Albert Museum and the William Morris Gallery.
Materials: Ebonised beech or ash, rush seat
Manufacture: Turned spindles and legs set into bored holes; the seat woven by hand.
