The first boat from Nautor in Jakobstad – a fibreglass yacht built with a cabinetmaker’s care.

Pekka Koskenkylä founded Nautor in 1966 to build ocean-going yachts in the new material fibreglass. He had the American design office Sparkman & Stephens draw the first model, the Swan 36, and the yard in Jakobstad built it with a precision previously associated with wooden boats.

The boats soon won offshore races, and the yard quickly became known all over the world. Swan became a name for luxurious sailing yachts, and the early boats are still sailed and cared for.

Materials: Glass-reinforced plastic, teak on deck and mahogany in the interior, lead keel

Manufacture: Built by Nautor in Jakobstad, Finland, from 1966/67 to designs by Sparkman & Stephens.

The tall masthead rig with a large genoa overlapping the mast.

The fin keel and separate rudder, unlike the long keels of older boats.

The deckhouse with windows and the fine joinery below deck.
