TaylorMade Pittsburgh Persimmon
The first metal driver, in steel and shaped like a persimmon wood.
Gary Adams founded TaylorMade in McHenry, Illinois. His Pittsburgh Persimmon of 1979 was a steel driver shaped like a wooden club.
The metal head gave a more consistent strike than wood, and the 1980s became the decade of the metalwood. The club paved the way for today’s large titanium drivers.
Materials: Stainless steel, steel or graphite shaft
Manufacture: Made by TaylorMade in the USA from 1979.
