The Swiss turntable with a heavy platter and combined drive.

Thorens made music boxes in Sainte-Croix in the Jura from 1883 and became one of Europe’s great makers of gramophones. The TD 124 appeared in 1957 and was driven by both belt and idler wheel, with a heavy platter that evened out the speed.

It was used in broadcasting studios and in luxurious home systems. Its precision and solid construction made it a classic of Swiss mechanics.
