Woven textile by C. F. A. Voysey

Flat, stylised birds and trees in light colours, woven for Alexander Morton & Co.

The architect Voysey designed hundreds of patterns for wallpapers and textiles, sold by firms such as Morton and Liberty. His simple, light patterns pointed towards Art Nouveau. Examples are in the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Whitworth Art Gallery.

Materials: Wool, silk or cotton

Manufacture: Woven on a Jacquard loom in Scotland after Voysey’s watercolour designs.

The birds in silhouette, without shading, in an even repeat.

The light clear colours, much lighter than Morris’s textiles.
