The flying plastic disc that became both a toy and a sport.

Walter Frederick Morrison, who had thrown popcorn tins and cake pans with friends, designed a plastic disc. Wham-O bought the rights and sold the disc as the Pluto Platter.

The name Frisbee came from a pie tin from the Frisbie Pie Company that students threw. In the 1960s Ed Headrick redesigned the disc with rings in the surface, and it became the basis for ultimate and disc golf.

Materials: Injection-moulded plastic

Manufacture: First sold as the Pluto Platter by Wham-O in California in 1957 and renamed Frisbee in 1958.
