Vues d’Hindoustan
Zuber’s panoramic wallpaper with views of India, printed with woodblocks.
Zuber in Rixheim made panoramic wallpapers in which a scene continues across the whole wall. Vues d’Hindoustan shows landscapes of India after travel accounts and pictures by English artists.
The wallpaper was printed with hundreds of woodblocks in many colours and hung in salons and dining rooms. It is an example of how wallpaper could replace paintings.
Materials: Distemper on paper, printed with woodblocks
Manufacture: Printed by hand by Jean Zuber & Cie in Rixheim in Alsace from 1807.
