Richard Fisher developed a boat with a glass-fibre hull filled with foam so that it could not sink. The first 13-foot boat was designed with the naval architect Raymond Hunt.

Boston Whaler's advertising showed a boat sawn in half that still floated. The boats became popular as tenders, work boats and rescue boats.
