Grand Seiko

Seiko's line for its most accurate and finest watches, an independent brand since 2017, known for its polishing and Spring Drive.

Seiko launched Grand Seiko in 1960 to show that Japan could make watches of Swiss chronometer standard. The watches were made by both Suwa Seikosha and Daini Seikosha, two competing parts of Seiko.

The design was codified in 1967 in a style of flat surfaces and sharp edges known as the Grand Seiko Style. Spring Drive, in which a mechanical movement is regulated electronically, came in 1999, and the brand became independent of Seiko in 2017.
