The first Grand Seiko, Japan’s answer to the Swiss chronometers.

Seiko wanted to show that Japanese watches could be as accurate as the best Swiss ones. The first Grand Seiko appeared in 1960 and met the standards then required of chronometers.

The watch was restrained and simple, and the design grew sharper in 1967 with flat, mirror-polished surfaces. Grand Seiko became a brand of its own in 2017.
