House of Worth

The first great fashion house in Paris, founded by the Englishman Charles Frederick Worth, who dressed Empress Eugénie.

Charles Frederick Worth moved from London to Paris and opened his house on rue de la Paix with Otto Bobergh. He was the first to show collections on live models and put his name in the clothes like an artist's signature.

His clients were empresses, queens and rich Americans, and Worth is regarded as the founder of haute couture. His sons Gaston and Jean-Philippe took over, and the house continued into the 1950s.
