KEF

British loudspeaker company, known for the Uni-Q driver and for measurement-based development.

Raymond Cooke founded KEF in Maidstone, England, in 1961; the name stands for Kent Engineering & Foundry, the factory where the company started. He wanted to use scientific measurements to build better loudspeakers.

The company was licensed to build the BBC’s LS3/5A and later made the Reference series. The Uni-Q, with the tweeter in the middle of the midrange driver, is KEF’s main hallmark.
