Orrefors
Glassworks in Småland that became the centre of Swedish art glass with Simon Gate, Edward Hald, Vicke Lindstrand, Nils Landberg, Sven Palmqvist and Ingeborg Lundin. Graal and Ariel are its techniques. Part of the same group as Kosta Boda.
Orrefors was an ironworks in Småland that started making glass, and Johan Ekman bought the works and invested in art glass. Simon Gate and Edward Hald were taken on in 1916–1917 and made engraved glass that won prizes in Paris in 1925.
Graal and Ariel were developed at Orrefors, and Vicke Lindstrand, Nils Landberg, Sven Palmqvist and Ingeborg Lundin continued the tradition. Orrefors is now in the same group as Kosta Boda.
Engraved signature Orrefors (or Of), the artist’s initials and model number; often a letter or figure for the year.
