Tulip glass

Nils Landberg’s goblet with a tulip for a bowl on a stem so thin that it almost disappears.

Nils Landberg worked at Orrefors for more than forty years. The Tulip glass of 1957 shows how far the glassblowers’ skill could be pushed: the glass is so thin it is almost impossible to make.

The glass won a gold medal at the Milan Triennale. It is protected by copyright, so only a drawing is shown.

Materials: Clear or coloured glass

Manufacture: Mouth-blown at Orrefors; the stem is drawn from the same glass as the bowl.

The extremely long, thin stem.

The bowl shaped like a tulip bud, often in smoke-coloured or green glass.

The engraved signature ‘Orrefors’ and a model number under the foot.
