Peugeot
Family firm that began with steel and tools, made bicycles from the 1880s and cars from around 1890.
The Peugeot family ran a steelworks in Franche-Comté and made saw blades, tools and coffee mills. Peugeot's pepper mills of 1874 are still made.
Armand Peugeot built the first cars, and models such as the 403 of 1955, designed by Pininfarina, and the 205 of 1983 became best-sellers. Peugeot is now part of Stellantis.
