Royal Copenhagen

The Royal Danish porcelain factory in Copenhagen. Known for Blue Fluted, Flora Danica and underglaze-painted landscapes and animals around 1900.

The royal Danish porcelain factory was founded in Copenhagen with the support of Queen Juliane Marie. Blue Fluted was the first pattern and has been made since 1775.

The Flora Danica service, with the plants of Denmark, was made in 1790–1802 as a gift for Catherine the Great. Arnold Krog developed underglaze painting around 1900, and Royal Copenhagen is now part of the Fiskars group.

Three wavy lines in underglaze blue, later with a crown and the word Danmark; lines under the waves and the painter’s number help with dating.
