Jeanne Lanvin

Couturier

French couturier who began with children’s clothes and created the full, romantic robe de style of the 1920s.

Jeanne Lanvin opened a millinery shop in Paris in 1889 and began making clothes for her daughter, which customers wanted to buy.

Her house is the oldest in Paris still operating; her light Lanvin blue and embroidered dresses were a counterpoint to Chanel’s straight lines.
