Adolf Loos
Architect and writer
Viennese architect who attacked ornament and preferred smooth surfaces, fine materials and English furniture.
Adolf Loos lived for some years in the United States and returned to Vienna, where he built cafés, shops and homes.
In the essay Ornament and Crime (1910) he called decoration waste; his own rooms are nonetheless rich in marble, wood and brass.
